TO FOLLOW, TO FALL BEHIND

My father takes us kids for long walks up and down the wooded trails of Valley Green, beside the swift-flowing Wissahickon Creek. We have a hard time keeping up. “See that old wooden bridge where the river bends,” he says. “I’ve crossed it already. I’m way ahead of you.”
