The Lure

in its tangle of twine, has dangled for years from the powerline above the river. Beyond reach of the floodwaters, beyond the conceivable cast of any fishermen below, its undiminished sparkle catches her attention every time she sees it, and holds it, relentlessly, in its lethal hook.
