Case Closed

They drop out of school. Friends don’t see them around but don’t really notice. Neighbors don’t see them around but don’t really notice. Relatives stop by. She says everything is alright but doesn’t open the door. They go away. A social worker knocks. There’s no answer. The police knock. There’s no answer. They think she’s moved. Case closed.

May storm —
in its path the buds
silently fall
